My Turn: Rex Putnam High graduate seeks funding for Peace Corps project to help disabled Ethiopians | OregonLive.com
We are working with an association called Abdiin Halilisuu, which consists of 31 people living with disabilities. This association worked with the previous Peace Corps volunteer to create a project proposal for an income-generating activity. The project, a chicken farm, was chosen based on the volunteer's prior experience.
After the project had waited for funding for nearly two years, we decided to rewrite the proposal and submit it to the Peace Corps Partnership Program. The Partnership Program, once it approves the proposal, posts it online and anyone can then donate. Once the fundraising is complete, the money is released and construction can begin.

Economic forecast resurrects specter of across-the-board cuts by Kulongoski | statesmanjournal.com
Federal aid to states that Congress cleared and President Obama signed a week ago will bring $261 million to Oregon.
That still falls short of covering the gap left by the last forecast three months ago, and Kulongoski said he would not hesitate to again invoke his authority to cut spending across the board from the tax-supported general fund.
However, Kulongoski said he and legislative leaders would work together to come up with an approach before the next quarterly economic and revenue forecast, which is scheduled for Aug. 26.

The Times Record: News - Human Development Center Supporters Rally At Capitol
Disability Rights Center attorney Dana McClain said Tuesday her group is not seeking closure of all of the state's six human development centers. She said that under federal law, disabled people have a right to be served in the most integrated setting possible, but the state is not doing evaluations to determine whether the people in the human development centers need to be there.
"If it (a lawsuit) results in the closure of an institution, it's because those individuals did not need to be there to begin with," she said.
