Citizen Review Committee (CRC) to Hold Community Forum on Police Accountability

The CRC will hold a community forum on Sunday, March 14, 2010, from 2-4pm at PSU to hear concerns about police accountability, including the James Chasse, Jr. case.

The Citizen Review Committee (CRC) will hold a community forum on Sunday, March 14, 2010, from 2 pm to 4pm at Hoffman Hall on the campus of Portland  State University (1833 SW 11th Ave.) to hear concerns about police accountability, including the James Chasse, Jr. case.

Appointed by the City Council, the 9-member volunteer committee is charged  with improving police accountability, promoting higher standards of police  service and increasing public confidence in Portland's police. Based on  the comments, the CRC will identify policy issues raised by the community and make recommendations for policy changes to the Auditor's Independent Police Review division and to the Portland Police Bureau itself.

The forum is being held with the community support of Resolutions Northwest, a nonprofit that strengthens communities through facilitation, conflict resolution services and education, and the Student Veterans Association, a service and advocacy group at Portland State University that seeks to bring together past and current members of the Armed Forces to promote, unify and advocate for the veteran voice on and off campus.

Persons with questions regarding the forum, or those unable to attend may provide input by contacting the CRC at 503-823-0926 or by e-mail at crc@ci.portland.or.us.
